The National Deputy President (Administration)/Lagos state Chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, Alhaji Muhammed Musa has urged its members and the public to disregard the purported recent leadership change in the Association.
He also said the Lagos State Executive Council under him remains the valid authorized and duly elected state executive council.
Musa who addressed a press conference on the issue at RTEAN secretariat at Akesan in Igando on Friday said the supposed change of leadership through “banditry and militancy is hereby condemned and totally rejected.”
He said, “The National Executive Council, NEC, of the Association is still intact and the Lagos State Executive Council under Alhaji Muhammed Musa remains the valid authorized and duly elected state executive council”.
According to him “the purported expulsions, dissolutions and other pronouncements by the purported Acting President, Mr. Eriyo Osapamwan who was dismissed from the Association in 2017, after several warning, for breaching RTEAN’s constitution, is illegal, null and void and of no effect.
“The process of expulsion in the Association is a constitutional process which must be followed before any member could be declared expelled, and moreover the allegation of fraud and corruption has not been established by any committee of investigation and report critically examined before pronouncements,” he said.
Throwing more light on the development, Musa said Osapamwan Eriyo and the former Secretary General Yusuf Adeniyi, since expelled from RTEAN, who petitioned him and the National President accusing them of embezzling N5billion has no constitutional right to call or organise any meeting without been directed by the president.
“The president and other national officers were attending an official meeting with the Bank of Industry in Lagos on the very day the illegal meeting and expulsion took place.
“RTEAN is a registered trade union, under the Trade Union Act T.14, laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 and is being guided by the laws of the land and it’s own constitution which must be obeyed and adhered to all times”.
Musa used the occasion to appeal to members of the Association who were present in their numbers at the secretariat during the conference to remain calm and not to take the laws into their hands as the matter was under control.
The communiqué of the Lagos state Exco after deliberations on the issue on Friday aligned with the position of Musa.
They passed a vote of confidence in the leadership of Musa and his executives and rejected the disolution and expulsion of the state exco by “by the former National Secretary General and the dismissed member who declared himself as Acting President.
“That the Lagos State chapter resolved to stay clear of the illegal actions” taken by the duo of expelled Osapamwan and former Secretary General as Musa “remains the valid authorized and duly elected state exco.
“All members of the Association in the state have resolved that no Caretaker Committee will be honoured or allowed to destabilize the state…and promises its unflinching support to the Lagos state government and all security agents, to maintain utmost peace in the state”.
It would be recalled that last Tuesday Osapamwan and former Secretary General of RTEAN,Yusuf who had earlier petitioned the National President and Musa to the police accusing them of embezzling N5billion allegedly invaded the national secretariat with thugs at Abuja with Osapamwan who was expelled in 2017 declaring himself as Acting President when the national exco were holding a meeting with Bank of Industry in Lagos.
